Born on February 28, 1955, in Uttarpara, Hooghly, West Bengal, is the Founder-Chancellor of Brainware University and the Founder-Chairman and Managing Director of Brainware Consultancy Private Limited and Webguru Infosystems Private Limited.
He completed his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, and went on to earn an Honours degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, a Master’s in Economics from Calcutta University, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM). Chancellor Mookhopadhayay has significantly impacted the education sector by establishing Brainware as a leading institution offering diverse, affordable, and high-quality programmes.

Phalguni Mookhopadhayay is the Founder-Chancellor of Brainware University, a private institution in Barasat, West Bengal, India. Established on February 25, 2016, under the West Bengal Act XXXI of 2015, the university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has the authority to confer degrees. Initially founded as a private engineering college, Brainware evolved into an IT education university before becoming a private university. The 9-acre campus, located at Barasat Kazipara, offers a range of on-campus Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctoral, and Diploma programmes.
In 2023, Phalguni Mookhopadhayay launched the ambitious ‘Celebrating Tagore’ project on the occasion of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s 162nd birth anniversary. This initiative aims to popularise Tagore’s timeless compositions- Rabindra Sangeet, beyond the border of Bengal, through rich renditions and anecdotal voiceovers. Leading a dedicated team, Chancellor Mookhopadhayay meticulously gathers contextual insights and translates each verse, sharing them on his widely followed YouTube channel. Garnering global acclaim, ‘Celebrating Tagore’ has amassed over 13 million views, passionately advocating for the universal appreciation of Tagore's music and poetry.
Phalguni Mookhopadhayay’s versatile photography captures diverse landscapes and cultures across India, from the hilly terrains of Meghalaya, picturesque Purulia to the ancient Ghats of Varanasi. He has now undertaken the task of curating his captivating photography into compiled photo books, each being a visual journey through India.
Chancellor Mookhopadhayay is a self-taught digital artist known for his remarkable artworks. His solo exhibition, 'Creative Contours,' held on the 10th, 11th, and 12th of February 2023 at Gaganendra Shilpa Pradarshashala in Kolkata, West Bengal, showcased much of his artistic skill.
Mookhopadhayay’s solo production, direction, and editing of the documentary film “Defeat Depression” in collaboration with Crystal Minds Wellness Clinic offers an insightful exploration into mental health issues. It has also been utilised for educational purposes at a police training academy in Hyderabad.
On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s 163rd birth anniversary, marking the one-year completion of the “Celebrating Tagore” initiative in 2024, Chancellor Mookhopadhayay has announced the upcoming publication of Celebrating Tagore, a book that explores lesser-known aspects of Tagore and his music.
